Answer
I recognise the link between affordable childcare and economic activity. It is one of a number of factors influencing labour market participation decisions. My Written Ministerial Statement on 23 May 2024 sets out my plans for a package of measures in 2024/25 to support early learning and childcare provision.
My officials are working closely with counterparts in other departments, including Economy and Communities, to implement a Northern Ireland Childcare Subsidy Scheme to help working parents with the affordability of childcare.
The interim Minister for the Economy had advised that her Department would be considering the scope to improve childcare provision within the skills programmes which it offers.
