Answer
My department uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support productivity, improve quality of work, and reduce administrative burden, while maintaining appropriate human oversight.
Current use cases include drafting, summarisation, research, document interrogation and data analysis.
AI tools have been rolled out across DfE, supported by guidance, training and a community of practice. They are used as assistive tools and do not replace professional judgement. All use operates within established security, data protection and governance frameworks, in line with Government AI principles.
DfE-sponsored arm’s length bodies (ALBs) are at varying stages of AI adoption. My department engages with ALBs through partner organisation meetings and briefings to share learning from AI pilots, promote responsible use, and support capability building, while recognising that operational decisions rest with each body.
My department also supports the AI Collaboration Centre (AICC), funded through Invest NI, which promotes AI adoption and capability across the wider economy and supports businesses and organisations to develop and deploy AI solutions.
