Answer

Where Dyslexia/Specific Learning Difficulties in Literacy have been identified within an Education Authority (EA) psychology assessment, the Educational Psychologist will recommend to the school a range of strategies and resources after considering those previously used by the school. These targeted recommendations form part of the outcome of the psychological assessment and may involve a referral to the EA Literacy Service for either advisory support or direct teaching intervention.

A range of additional resources including information, guidance on accessing training, suggested activities and resources to help parents and schools to support literacy difficulties where they arise or are at risk of arising can be found at https://send.eani.org.uk/support-services/literacy.

Schools and parents can also contact the Literacy Service to seek advice, guidance and information for any pupil, either referred to the service or not, by phoning 028 9448 2228 during normal office hours. Alternatively, the service can be contacted by e-mail at literacyservice@eani.org.uk.

The End to End (E2E) Review of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and associated workstreams are considering all options for reform across SEN policy areas to ensure that children and young people with SEN have the right support from the right people at the right time in the right place.
