Answer
I welcome the Motor Insurance Taskforce’s report, which sets out important measures to strengthen regulatory oversight and transparency, including the Financial Conduct Authority’s analysis of costs for specific customer groups and an investigation into premium finance.
Other actions include enhanced efforts to tackle fraud and uninsured driving through new offences, the development of a good practice code by the Association of British Insurers, and further investment in the vehicle repair sector. These are positive steps with direct relevance to the North.
The report also acknowledges the unique circumstances here. As per Action Point 4.4 of the report, my officials have commenced exploratory discussions with key stakeholders involved in the administration and running of the Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE) scheme in Britain to explore the potential benefits and feasibility of introducing a CIE scheme here. Once further information is available my officials will present me with findings and options as to next steps for my consideration.
