Answer
The Motor Insurance Taskforce established by the British Government has already fully considered the issues specific to the North. These matters were raised directly through Ministerial engagement, including a dedicated trilateral meeting involving myself, the then British Government Minister for the Future of Roads, Lilian Greenwood MP, and the Minister of Finance, during which the particular challenges faced here were discussed in detail.
My Department, together with the Department of Finance also provided formal written input to the Taskforce, ensuring that the North’s unique circumstances were incorporated into its analysis and final recommendations. This included correspondence issued following Ministerial meetings outlining local insurance issues and the factors influencing premiums here. As a result, the final Motor Insurance Taskforce Report already reflects the key issues affecting the North.
My Department will continue to work closely with the British Government and key stakeholders on all motor insurance related matters specific to the North.
