Answer
When street lighting columns are identified as being unsafe or deemed to be at high risk of failure, my Department will act in the interest of public safety and remove or make safe as a matter of urgency, without prior communication to public and residents. This work is reactive, therefore, my Department’s street lighting contractors will, where possible, liaise with residents to ensure minimal disruption whilst the work is ongoing.
Where columns are identified as end of life and meet the requirements for a replacement scheme residents will be given advance notice by letter of the planned works prior to the work commencing.
