Answer

I can advise that the Department is currently carrying out carriageway resurfacing scheme between the Carryduff roundabout and Green Pastures on the Ballynahinch Road in Carryduff. This scheme is substantially complete. I can advise that besides the current resurfacing scheme no other works are planned for the Ballynahinch Road at this time.

In relation to the introduction of traffic lights at the Carryduff Roundabout, I can advise that the location operates as a roundabout priority junction whereby traffic enters the roundabout in gaps and caters for the different traffic movements. The current roundabout layout would not lend itself to signalisation and could in fact be detrimental to the capacity and operation of the roundabout. As such, the Department has no plans to introduce signals at this time.

One of the best ways to ensure safety on our roads and fulfil our long-term goal of eliminating death and serious injury by 2050, is by changing road user behaviour. As road users we all have a personal responsibility to behave in a way that keeps ourselves and others safe. The sad reality is that if we do not change our own attitudes when we are using the roads, our death toll will continue to increase.
