Answer

The truncation of the Ravenhill Road scheme has been proposed due to technical difficulties encountered during preliminary design in delivering the lower section and a suitable connection to Albertbridge Road. Resolution of these issues will be dependent on a number of longer term considerations, including the development of the Eastern Transport Plan. Delivery of the proposed scheme in the meantime will provide improved cycling facilities to schools and parks in the local community.

Consideration is also being given to alternative options to improve cycle linkages from the scheme to the city centre, such as the proposed Lagan Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge. Once complete, this will provide an attractive connection from Rosetta to Belfast City Centre and Lanyon Place train station along the Ravenhill Road, Ormeau Embankment and the Lagan riverside path.
