Answer
The current traffic signal sequencing at Finaghy crossroads is complex, with up to 6 traffic movements and 4 pedestrian movements that need to be controlled efficiently but more importantly, safely, within the limited road space available.
The Department has introduced advanced dynamic traffic signal control called MOVA (Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation). MOVA gathers flow information, on each movement, from detector loops buried in the carriageway surface and amends signal timing according to the prevailing flow.
The benefits of MOVA control vary from site-to-site but delay savings are typically between 10-20%.
I can also advise that an investigation of the history of personal injury collisions currently available to the Department has not highlighted a particular issue at the junction.
